Wenger draws line under Cesc saga
28 Jul 2010 - 11:50:30
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has attempted to draw a line under the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona summer transfer saga.
Wenger has declared himself happy with his skipper for the way he has conducted himself amid feverish speculation linking him with a return to his former club.
The Gunners turned down an initial bid from the Spanish giants at the beginning of the summer and Fabregas refused to discuss his club future during the recent World Cup.
Recent financial problems at Barcelona appear to have put an end to their pursuit of the £30million-rated midfielder for this summer at least and Wenger has again reiterated his desire to keep Fabregas in north London.
"I am very happy with Cesc and we are all very happy at the club with Cesc," he told the club's official website.
"He is a very important player for us, he is our captain and we have worked very hard (for him) to be the future of our team and that is why we are always adamant about (not) letting him go."
Meanwhile, Wenger has described Barcelona's latest attempt to keep the story alive as "noise".
Club spokesman Toni Freixa lambasted the Gunners for refusing to sit down and discuss a possible transfer in an outburst to the media at the beginning of the week.
"It is only noise," explained Wenger. "In our job we have to deal with what we can master. What we cannot influence is not to worry about."
