Wenger denies Cesc talks
15 Feb 2008 - 15:31:52
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports suggesting that the club are already in talks over a new contract with star midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
The 21-year-old Spain international had suggested on Thursday that the Gunners had opened negotiations with him over a new deal, despite his current contract running until the summer of 2014.
He had told a Spanish radio station: "I have contract in force until 2014. I have six years remaining and I am talking with my club, who are interested in renegotiating it.
"I want to succeed at Arsenal and that the club wants me is fundamental for me."
However, Wenger has played down Fabregas' comments, telling reporters: "At the moment there are no talks.
"What he wanted to say is that he is committed to the future here. He was interviewed by Spanish radio and that's all he wanted to say."
Fabregas has already clocked up 183 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 25 goals in all competitions since his arrival from Barcelona in the summer of 2003.
