Wenger defends Ade
Arsene Wenger has defended Emmanuel Adebayor's display in Arsenal's UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Togo international came under fire from fans for his perceived lacklustre display as the Gunners came away from Manchester with a somewhat fortune 1-0 defeat. Some fans, who fear the 25-year-old could leave the Emirates at the end of the season, have questioned the striker's commitment, but Wenger is backing the former Monaco ace's record. Adebayor was rested for Arsenal's 3-0 weekend win over Portsmouth and Wenger hopes supporters get behind the under fire striker, who has an impressive six goals in European action this season. "I know and I can understand the criticism, but I watched carefully that game [against United] and he put a lot of effort in, more than people think," explained Wenger. "He was really isolated. We didn't give him enough support on the night. "I believe that they [the fans] questioned his commitment because he was injured and he hadn't scored as many goals. But look at his efficiency in the Champions League and it's impressive. "He has scored six goals in eight games [this season]."
