Wenger coy on injured stars
14 Dec 2007 - 08:35:35
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will give midfield trio Cesc Fabregas, Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini every opportunity to prove their fitness ahead of Sunday's showdown with Chelsea.
Fabregas, who has been in superb form this season after scoring ten goals, has sat out the last four games with a hamstring strain, while Hleb and Flamini are also rated doubtful for the visit of the third-placed Blues.
Meanwhile, Wenger is keeping his cards close to his chest ahead of the Emirates Stadium clash.
Robin van Persie and Abou Diaby returned from injury in Wednesday's Champions League victory over Steaua Bucharest, while veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was also handed a recall.
However, the Frenchman has refused to confirm whether they will take part at the weekend.
"It is very early and we have so many question-marks against players," he told Arsenal TV Online. "But all three (who came back against Steaua) could be involved as they are all quality players.
"The question marks are against Flamini, Fabregas and Hleb. They are practising but not with the team. They are not in normal training.
"Who will come back into normal training before Sunday? It could be one, two or three. It is too early to say. And the selection will depend on that because you can gamble on one or two but not five."
