Wenger cautious over youth

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called for patience in his young squad as they look to end a two-year trophyless spell.

The Gunners exceeded expectations last season as they topped the Premier League heading into February despite the departure of captain and attacking talisman Thierry Henry to Barcelona.

However, the youthful squad eventually finished third and were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Liverpool.

Arsenal are predicted to improve in the coming season with a serious Premier League challenge expected, but Wenger remains cautious about the ability of his players to maintain a title push.

The Frenchman has continued his policy of adding young talent to his ranks this summer following the capture of Wales teenager Aaron Ramsey and the expected arrival of France starlet Samir Nasri.

"In life you need to be patient to get to the very top," said Wenger.

"Don't forget some players don't start to win until they're 28 or 29 and we've many players under 25."
