Wenger calms Bendtner fears
09 Jul 2010 - 07:04:31
Arsene Wenger has allayed fears that a groin injury could force Nicklas Bendtner to miss the start of Arsenal's Premier League season.
The Denmark striker revealed earlier in the week that he might miss the beginning of the new campaign after failing to shake off a long-running groin problem.
Bendtner started just 13 league games for the Gunners last term after mid-season surgery on the troublesome injury.
He returned towards the end of the season and made three World Cup appearances for Denmark.
He drew a blank in South Africa but Wenger does not expect to be without his striker for the start of the new campaign on August 14.
"We have an assessment with him on Thursday," Wenger told the club's official website. "It is a groin problem and we see where we go from there.
"We need to check it to see if we have to do something. But no, it is not a big problem."
Meanwhile, Wenger has revealed that his summer spending will not stop with the arrivals of French centre-back Laurent Koscielny and Morocco striker Marouane Chamakh.
"Koscielny can be an outstanding addition to our team, but it is not over, we are still open to buy," he added.
"We are still on the market for another defensive player because we have the need for one more."
