Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Emmanuel Adebayor will remain at the club, but has warned the unsettled striker that he will not break his wage structure to keep him.
Adebayor has been linked with several moves away from the Emirates Stadium this summer with Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Internazionale all rumoured to be interested.
The 24-year-old Togo striker is believed to want a new contract to remain with the Gunners after a breakthrough season last year in which he scored 31 times.
But although Wenger is confident that Adebayor will start the season with the Gunners, he has ruled out breaking the bank to sign him to a new long-term deal.
"I've not met many people who do not believe they have a case to improve their contract," he told The Sun.
"I fight to get the players the maximum wages, but you have to respect that we have a wage structure.
"I want to keep him and let's see.
"Adebayor is under contract. He is an Arsenal player and I am very confident that he will start the new season with us."
