Wenger bemoans Gibbs blow
25 Nov 2009 - 08:14:24
Arsenal's injury problems have intensified after it was confirmed that Kieran Gibbs faces three months on the sidelines after fracturing the first metatarsal in his left foot during Tuesday's 2-0 Champions League victory against Standard Liege.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 international will have an operation on the injury on Wednesday morning.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had said immediately after the game: "Gibbs has a big hole in his leg.
"It was a very bad challenge by the number 22 and it was not his first try, unfortunately. It doesn't look good for Gibbs."
However, Wenger hopes William Gallas will be available this weekend after he was involved in a mid-air collision with team-mate Andrey Arshavin.
The Frenchman added: "Gallas has an ankle problem and a swollen eye.
"I think he will recover for Sunday, we hope so. It wasn't concussion but he couldn't see anymore because his eye was swollen.
"Arshavin has some staples in his head. He will be available for Sunday."
