    Wenger: Victory is compulsory

    28 Nov 2008 - 11:41:10

Arsene Wenger has admitted that victory at Chelsea this weekend is imperative for his Arsenal side, if the Gunners are to have any chance of securing this season's Premier League title.

The north London side have already lost five league matches this term and are ten points behind Sunday's opponents who currently head the table.

Wenger said: "We have dropped down to fifth place, but I don't believe that is too significant at this stage.

"It is down to us redress the situation quickly. We are in a situation where we want to win against the big clubs because if we want to come back into it that will be compulsory.

"The media are ready to make definitive judgements but we are strong enough to deal with that and we have to show that."

New captain Cesc Fabregas also remains upbeat, saying: "There is so much still to play for this season.

"It is true we are ten points behind the leaders, but sometimes if you recover a few points quickly you can put the pressure on.

"On Sunday we go to Chelsea, which is an opportunity to get some points back, then Liverpool is soon afterwards, and things can change quickly.

"We always go to win and I'm sure a club like Chelsea will do the same. Every time I've played against them they've always tried to go for the victory. We expect the same on Sunday.

"They have been playing really well at home. I haven't watched a lot of the games but the times I have seen them they have played some very good stuff I respect them a lot, but will we see."
