    Wenger: Gunners on the up

    12 Apr 2009 - 10:57:42

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger felt that his side had again shown a growing maturity in an eventually comfortable 4-1 victory at Wigan Athletic.

The Gunners trailed until just after the hour mark at the JJB Stadium, before goals from Theo Walcott, Mikael Silvestre, Andrey Arshavin and Alex Song engineered a complete turnaround.

Wenger said: "I felt that Wigan had a very strong and especially committed first half where they were well organised and the 50-50s were all for them.

"They played very strongly and I think that slowly our technique took over and we looked dangerous every time we had the ball.

"The fatigue crept in a little bit for Wigan and it became logical for us to come back and make the difference.

"I feel we have shown great character again. This young team has a lot of mental strength.

"We have shown some qualities that make it very interesting for the future."
