Wenger: We want to do well in all competitions

Arsene Wenger maintains he has no reason not to target success in every competition as he aims to keep Arsenal on course for a first trophy since 2005 with victory over Wigan in the Carling Cup quarter-finals. The Gunners emerged relatively unscathed from a difficult week which saw them beaten by north-London rivals Tottenham before losing to Champions League debutants Braga in Portugal. A hard-earned victory at Aston Villa on Saturday, coupled with Chelsea's failure to win at Newcastle, means Arsenal are still only two points off the top of the Barclays Premier League and visit leaders Manchester United in a fortnight. Much has been made of Arsenal's trophy drought since lifting the FA Cup six seasons ago, but Wenger maintains the current campaign is all about collective progression, rather than any specific target. "We go from game to game and we want to do well. I said from the start of the season that we want to do well in all the competitions," said Wenger, whose side will host Leeds in the FA Cup third round. "At the moment we are two points from the top in the Premier League, we are in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup, still a good chance to qualify in the Champions League, so we will just go from game to game and do as well as we can in every competition."
