Wenger: Vieira and City a perfect fit

Vieira, 33, was Wenger's long-time midfield enforcer and had been linked with a move back to his old club after becoming surplus to requirements at Inter Milan.[LNB]However, Vieira has signed a six-month deal at Eastlands with an option for a further year to link up again with new City boss Roberto Mancini, whom he worked with during their time in Italy.[LNB]Vieira wants regular football to cement his place in the France squad ahead of the World Cup finals, and Wenger feels it is a move which will work out well for both parties.[LNB]"At that age, it is very difficult to stay at your best if you do not play," he said.[LNB]"I was asked many times the question in France and have said Patrick needed to change clubs to play, so he could be competitive.[LNB]"For me, he has made the right choice. City have made the right choice, so it should be a good marriage."[LNB]Wenger decided against pursuing his initial interest during the summer, instead placing faith in youngsters like Aaron Ramsey, Abou Diaby and Denilson.[LNB]The Arsenal boss added: "Yes, I thought about it, but here we had players like Song coming out, and giving them a chance.[LNB]"It was important that nobody stepped in front of them."[LNB]Meanwhile West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola, who knows from first-hand experience how tough a competitor Vieira is, believes the Frenchman will prove a shrewd signing for City.[LNB]"He is 33 years old. I don't see why he cannot do the job. He has such huge experience and personality that he can affect a game positively.[LNB]"He is a winner plus he is going to a place where the manager likes him very much.[LNB]"It is a pleasure to see him over here. He is one of those players you don't want to play against. I can tell you, he is tough. It is good for the game."[LNB][LNB] Barclays Prem 2009/10 Win Outright: Man City 20/1
