Wenger questions Arshavin logic

Arsene Wenger insists Andrey Arshavin's latest injury problem should never have come about. The Arsenal midfielder is facing up to a spell on the sidelines after aggravating a groin strain while away on international duty with Russia. He was already carrying the knock when he joined up which his country, but played the full 90 minutes in a World Cup qualifier against Wales on Wednesday. The talented playmaker will now be forced to sit out fixtures against Manchester City, Standard Liege and Wigan, leaving his club boss unimpressed. Wenger said: "All the players are not back yet, so we have to wait a bit to see what damage has been done by the international games. "We lost Arshavin, who played with Russia last night and should not have played. "He will be out for Saturday, for Wednesday and certainly as well for Wigan. "I took him out at Manchester United because of a groin problem. He did not play in Russia's first game, but played last night against Wales. He should not have played and is injured. "You can say a lot about it, but it does not do a lot." Wenger has also responded to the booing endured by Gunners striker Eduardo during Croatia's clash with England. The striker was a target for abuse from fans following his role at the centre of the recent diving scandal. Wenger, though, believes the taunts will not have an adverse affect on the attitude of his player. "Any situation you face as a top-level player you have to deal with, and you can only do that by being mentally strong," said the Frenchman. "The situation has been created by the media impact of his case, but that is not the worst. "The worst thing is that now he is not given penalties when they are penalties. That is much worse. "The one last night against England (when he was hauled down by Glen Johnson) was a penalty." Wenger, though, maintained: "I do not believe it will affect his game. He is a player who has gone through much more difficult things than that. "On the one side, a good way to deal with that is that he is in good health. This is a minor event compared to what he has gone through before."
