Wenger on the hunt for a defender

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he is looking to sign a new centre-back this summer, and has "plenty of names" on his radar. [LNB] Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre have all left the club since May, while Laurent Koscielny from Lorient is Wenger's only addition to his central defence. [LNB]Johan Djourou has made his comeback after being sidelined for almost all of last season with injury, but with Thomas Vermaelen that leaves Wenger just three established centre-backs to choose from. [LNB]The Gunners boss admits he required five central defenders last season, and is looking to bring at least one more to the Emirates Stadium this summer. [LNB]But, for the time being, the Frenchman is keeping quiet on which players he has his eye on.[LNB]"I wouldn't like to give you any names," Wenger told Arsenal's official website. [LNB]"There are plenty of names that we consider and we analyse. We look at the financial possibilities and the technical potential. But it is impossible for me to come out with a name.[LNB]"We are still on the search because at the moment we only have three centre-backs and we have seen last season you needed five. [LNB]"I believe we need at least four because we have some other players who can fill in this position but overall we are still on the search."
