Wenger keen on Szczesny stay
Arsene Wenger insists he wants Wojciech Szczesny to remain with Arsenal despite the young goalkeeper being in the final year of his contract.[LNB] The 20-year-old Pole will start between the sticks when the Gunners travel to Newcastle in Carling Cup action on Wednesday evening. [LNB]Szczesny was furious after being overlooked for the 4-1 win at Tottenham in the previous round, saying: "If you are fighting for trophies, you should pick your best players, not your oldest.[LNB]"I am not interested in being the number-three keeper, only the number one. But no-one at Arsenal is brave enough to let me play."[LNB]However, Wenger appears to have forgiven him for that outburst, and has called on the youngster, who is out of contract at the end of the season, to prove his worth at St James' Park. [LNB]"He will play at Newcastle and this is his chance to show he is a good keeper," said Wenger. [LNB]"I believe he is one but let's not make stars out of players before they have proven themselves. He has the talent, we rate him as a goalkeeper and he knows he has been educated here.[LNB]"We want him to stay with us but I can only show that by giving him a chance when it is possible. At Newcastle he gets that chance."[LNB]Szczesny's compatriot Lukasz Fabianski has been in good form for the Gunners this term, with Wenger selecting the Pole during regular No.1 Manuel Almunia's injury absence.[LNB]The manager, who tried to sign Fulham shot-stopper Mark Schwarzer in the summer, is pleased to see the belief he has shown in his keepers being rewarded.[LNB]"One thing you cannot fault is my faith!" added Wenger. [LNB]"My faith has been questioned and I wouldn't like to go overboard too much on what some people said but you just hope that what you believe is right comes out and recently we have made progress.[LNB]"It is not won and we have still to show consistency in the performances but it's good that the keepers are showing they are as good as I think they are."
