Wenger drops squad hint

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted he will start the new Premier League season with his current crops of stars. The Gunners tactician was expected to strengthen his squad after cashing in on Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure. However, it has been a distinctly quiet summer overall for Wenger, with only defender Thomas Vermaelen joining the ranks. While some fans are predicting another campaign without silverware, the vastly-experienced French manager is quietly optimistic. Wenger insists he trusts his current squad to impress and that fitness-wise his charges are good to go ahead of the new season. "I am very optimistic about the season and I am very positive about this team," he told the club's official website. "We always have to listen to peoples' opinions, but you also have to trust what you see in the games and in training. "Overall it was very positive preparation, and I believe we have shown quality in every game. "It is unfortunate that now everybody goes away on international games, which is why we have to cross our fingers that everybody comes back in good shape. "But overall, physically, everybody is ready to start."
