Wenger admits striker priority

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that signing a new striker is his priority during the transfer window.

Wenger has lost both Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner to long-term injuries in recent months and has found himself short of options following his decision to sell Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City last summer.

But despite admitting the need to strengthen, Wenger has revealed that he is not close to concluding any transfer business midway through the winter transfer window.

"Yes, I am still thinking about trying to bring someone in this month, but I must confess I am not very close to doing anything at this moment," said Wenger.

"I am looking at buying strikers because when we started the season we were playing with van Persie and Bendtner up front.

"But at the moment we don't have either of them, while we are also without (Theo) Walcott.

"So we are missing those three as we enter a very important period of the season when every point is crucial and can make the difference at the end of a season.

"But right now I am not close because I am yet to find a player who can convince me that he is better than what we have already."
