Watt hopes for Gunners chance
Arsenal starlet Sanchez Watt is hoping Arsene Wenger will offer him an opportunity to shine in the Carling Cup.
The Gunners boss is renowned for blooding young talent in the competition, and has proven to be very successful with that approach over the years.
Teenage talent Watt, who only turned 18 in February, could be the next exciting product to fall off the Emirates Stadium production line.
The tricky forward was involved with the first-team squad during pre-season, while he was named on the bench for Arsenal's UEFA Champions League clash with Standard Liege last week.
Watt has now got a taste for life in the big time and admits he is desperate to be involved when the Gunners face Championship leaders West Brom on Tuesday.
"I train with the first team a lot, but it was great to get the chance to play in pre-season," he said.
"However, I don't want to be a name who just played in the Emirates Cup - I want to be there in Arsene Wenger's mind."
Watt added: "Arsene Wenger watches you off the ball too, so you have to be switched on, tactically and mentally. You just have to work hard.
"I hope to be picked for the Carling Cup and am just going to keep on trying. If I get the shout, I will try my best.
"It is about whoever is hot at that precise moment, and whoever gets that chance to do well."
Wenger has admitted that he will shuffle his pack in the Carling Cup, while he has also reiterated his belief that knockout competition provides an ideal stage on which to identify potential stars of the future.
"It will be a much younger team against West Brom," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.
"We will be faithful to our tradition and try to find a good balance between youth and experience - Wilshere, Ramsey, Sanchez Watt, Wojciech [Szczesny].
"We will have as well (Philippe) Senderos and (Mikael) Silvestre as experienced players, Kieran Gibbs will play."
The Frenchman added: "If you look at the players who were on the pitch against Celtic in the Champions League, they all played in the Carling Cup - (Nicklas) Bendtner, (Alex) Song, Denilson,
(Cesc) Fabregas even (Gael) Clichy.
"They all started in the Carling Cup. That shows you how important it is to go through this stage."
