Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was pleased to see his side avoid a fourth successive defeat and gain confidence ahead of a crucial Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven by beating Reading 2-1.
The Gunners were facing an unwanted record of four losses in four games in four different competitions, but saw off the Royals thanks to goals from Gilberto Silva and Julio Baptista.
That set them up nicely for the second leg of their last 16 showdown with PSV, who hold a 1-0 lead from the first game in Holland.
Wenger said: "After the week we have had, it was very important for us to get the win.
"A bad result would have pushed us into a bit of a crisis, confidence-wise, but three points gets us into a good position and takes off some of the pressure.
"It is important we are relaxed against PSV and take our chances. We have to believe in what we do and play the football we can play.
"Hopefully that will be enough. They will be cautious, wait for us in their own half and hope we become impatient.
"We have to be dynamic and patient at the same time and that is not very easy, but I believe we can do it."
