Victory against Cardiff could be the worst thing for Arsenal
In a game which Arsenal dominated from start to finish but failed to score until the 88 minute the Gunners showed a resilience that in recent seasons has not been present.
In recent years after missing chance after chance Arsenal would have come out of the Cardiff game with at best a draw or at worse a baffling defeat after Cardiff scored some sort of fluke goal late on. So to get come out of the game with a win is an obvious and pleasing improvement. The manner of the victory however is not ideal.
To sustain a title challenge Arsenal need to sign another forward. Giroud is a good player but he is clearly struggling to play 90 minutes twice a week. This leaves Arsenal with three rather unappetising options.
One play main back up Bendtner more. Except he is not good enough. Two play Walcott or Podolski through the centre which is not their favoured position.
The fact then that Bendtner and Walcott scored late goals against Cardiff does not bode well for Arsenal fans. Wenger has an admirable level of trust in his squad however, this trust has led his astray in recent years. Wenger has persevered with players like Manuel Almunia and Abou Diaby when he should have been out finding their replacements much sooner than he did.
The worry now is that late goals from Bendtner and Walcott will convince Wenger that no strengthening is needed and no new forward will be signed in the transfer window.
Without reinforcements up front Arsenal will no last the pace of a title challenge. It would be a shame if a home victory of Cardiff cost Arsenal a league title.
