Vermaelen aims to impress
14 Aug 2009 - 07:13:22
Arsenal new boy Thomas Vermaelen is determined to adapt quickly to the new challenge of playing in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old Belgium international has moved to England from Dutch giants Ajax and is relishing the chance to impress on a bigger stage.
He told the club's official magazine: "I will always give 100 per cent. I want to do my best for Arsenal, playing as well as I possibly can.
"You do need a little time to adapt and we will see how fast it goes. But I want to adapt as quickly as possible at Arsenal and play as many games as I can.
"I am looking forward to playing Premier League games. I have always admired the way the teams play, the commitment of the players.
"They always want to fight and that is what I like."
Meanwhile, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that both Johan Djourou and Lukasz Fabianksi are facing time on the sidelines.
He told the club's official website: "Lukasz has had a cartilage surgery. He will be out for two months.
"Johan has a knee problem that will take some time to cure, maybe one month."
