Vermaelen injury blow for Gunners

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has been ruled out for "two to three weeks" after suffering a calf injury in the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

The Belgium international lasted just 19 minutes of the defeat at White Hart Lane before he had to be replaced.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told the Arsenal website: "Certainly it is a calf strain. (He will be out for) two to three weeks."

With William Gallas struggling with a calf injury it leaves the Gunners short at the back, with veteran duo Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre the central defensive pairing that finished the game against Spurs.
