Trevor Francis, the first ?1m footballer, believes the ?100m player is just around the corner.[LNB]Brian Clough stunned football in 1979 when he paid twice the previous record fee to take Francis from Birmingham to Nottingham Forest.[LNB]But Francis insists the ?50m paid for Fernando Torres by Chelsea and the ?35m which took Andy Carroll from Newcastle to Liverpool in the transfer window last month will be dwarfed in the future.[LNB]Heavy burden: Trevor Francis became football's first ?1m player[LNB]'I thought (the Torres transfer) was too much money just as people thought it was too much when Brian Clough paid ?1m for me but there wasn't the surprise as there was in 1979. Football has become awash with money, ' Francis, said BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme. [LNB]'?1m had that magic ring to it and I am sure there will be a ?100m transfer. That would be something which would captivate everyone's interest because that would have a magical ring to it.'[LNB]He believes the fees, however, will put Torres and Carroll under pressure.[LNB]'In my time the supporters were singing 'What a waste of money' and I had that until I scored my first goal. The best thing that happened to me was when Steve Daley was transferred from Wolves to Manchester City for ?1.5m. I don't think Steve ever realised what a weight that took off my shoulders.[LNB]'The one I find slightly out of proportion is the Carroll one. Carroll's a gamble. But Torres is a gamble, Darren Bent was a gamble. It is always a gamble when you pay that sort of money.'[LNB]  Torres targets debut goal - but ?50m man won't celebrate against LiverpoolTorres kills off romance: 'Some kiss the badge, I just want to score'All the latest Liverpool news, features and opinionAll the latest Chelsea news, features and opinion[LNB] [LNB]  Explore more:People: Brian Clough, Darren Bent, Trevor Francis, Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll Places: Birmingham, Newcastle, Liverpool
