Transfer Round Up 10th June - Arsenal In For La Liga star, Chelsea Look To Madrid midfield ace
We start with who will not be transferred according to the powers to be at Borussia Dortmund. Robert Lewandowski has been told he is not going anywhere this summer and any deal with Bayern Munich will never happen while he is under contract. Dortmund has made it clear that they will not be bullied into selling their star striker. This doesn’t mean though that they would not be willing to sell to Chelsea or Manchester United. Some see this as nothing more than a ploy to start a bidding war between the English clubs to drive up the asking price and keep Bayern from growing stronger in the Bundesliga.
Arsenal has money to spend and it does not look like they will be wasting anytime spending it. It is reported yesterday that Arsene Wenger is in the process of readying three bids. The first will be for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and the next two are for midfielders Ilkay Gundogan of Borussia Dortmund's and Bayer Leverkusen's Lars Bender.
Arsenal are striking early to avoid the transfer fiasco of 2011 which saw them lose Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and then having to scramble to replace them on the last day of the transfer window.
Wenger feels that the time is right for splashing the cash and transforming his team to compete for the Premier League trophy. It is believed that the bid for Higuain will be around £25m and that he is fundamental to Arsenal moving towards a title. Speculation also has Gundogan at £20m and Bender at around £17m. With the £22 they are offering to Fellaini, there transfer kiddy will almost be gone.
West Ham is in the market for a possible replacement for Andy Carroll and they have set their sights on Eredivisie’s Wilfried Bony. Carroll’s permanent move to the Hammers looks more and more like it will not happen after all and Sam Allardyce is already looking to fill the hole if Carroll decides to go elsewhere. It looks like Carroll is still holding out hope that Newcastle would want him back but there is no chance that they will give Liverpool anywhere near the ridiculous money that Liverpool spent to get him.
West Ham have spoken with Bony’s representatives about a possible move, although they are not the only Premier League club interested in the 24-year-old. Bony has an eye for the goal and was Eredivisie’s top-scorer last season with 31 goals.
Jose Mourinho also has a few moves that he is hoping to make in the following week. It seems he has his eye on his former player, Xabi Alonso. Mourinho looks to strengthen his midfield with the veteran and former Liverpool midfielder. It is said that Alonso has already turned down a chance to sign a two year extension with Real Madrid and would love to follow Mourinho to Chelsea.
But Mourinho is not stopping there. He is also looking to hijack Manchester City’s attempts to sign Napoli striker Edinson Cavani. Chelsea has decided to go after Cavani after City resisted the £53m buyout clause in Cavani’s contract.
Lastly, Tottenham are looking to bring Fulham winger Alex Kacaniklic to White Hart Lane. The 21-year-old Swedish winger is believed to be worth around £7m and Spurs are looking to pay cash for his services. Spurs are also looking at Atletico Madrid winger Bernard who looks to leave his club in the summer. Spurs will face stiff competition from the likes of Borussia
Dortmund who covets the Brazilian 20-year-old. Without that Champions League spot to offer, Spurs will have to come up with quite a sales pitch for the youngster.
