Better keepers have gotten beaten at their near posts, and Al's performance in the first half against Barca in the first leg at the Emirates was inspirational to say the least. He kept Arsenal in the game singe handedly and didn't get the praise he deserved. After sticking with him till now, it makes no sense to try to sign Schwarzer at the last minute.'[LNB] Leaving for the Latics: Tom Cleverley (C) is off to Wigan from Manchester United after having been out on loan at Watford last season[LNB]3.23pm: Hello? Anyone out there? It's gone a touch quiet. Got any news for me? Have your club been doing the right deals or are you as happy as a donkey in Pakistan? A deal involving Carlton Cole sounds like it could be in the offing.[LNB]2.43: Nii Isaac with rant: 'Not a piece of news on Man Utd. Winning a trophy this season looks uncertain without a buy. Reports in Italy say Sampdoria have lined up a bid as they prepare to sell midfielder Marco Padalino to Brescia.[LNB]2.05pm: Arsenal fans are really desperate for Arsene Wenger to buy a new goalkeeper, more desperate than Spurs fans are for Harry Redknapp to buy a new striker. Ayaz (a Gooner) writes: 'Really disappointed Arsene seems to be against signing a goalkeeper, an experienced, decent keeper would really cement our position as competitors for the league title this season. Four hours to go but I doubt we'll be signing anyone. Lets hope though.'[LNB] Enlarge Enlarge  Strikers switch: Ryan Babel is reportedly on his way to West Ham to do a deal - and the Hammers are considering an offer for Carlton Cole[LNB]2pm: JUST FOUR HOURS TO GO! Steve McClaren doesn't want him to go but  will allow a loan deal to go through. [LNB]1.26pm: Dave, a worried Arsenal fan in Australia writes: As an Arsenal fan I am really disappointed because it looks like Arsene is taking the goal-keeping situation too lightly. If the Mark Schwarzer deal was never going to happen (or even if it was a long shot) he should've lined someone else up! In Almunia we cringe![LNB]1.18pm: Manager news: Aston Villa continue their search for a new boss - caretaker Kevin MacDonald has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the role. Read more. I chose Milan because they are an excellent team with great players and my goal is to win things. [LNB]'I hope to show that our attack is the strongest in Europe. I haven't spoken to Pato or Ronaldinho yet, but I hope the negotiation ends well and I can't wait to meet them. To the fans I say that I am very happy.'[LNB]12.42pm: Harry Redknapp's been stating Tottenham won't be doing any business today. Yeh, right. Spurs are set to make an improved bid for Steven Pienaar. More if/when I get it on that. [LNB]9.32am: Palermo are also still keen on West Ham's Valon Behrami, say reports in Italy, but his high Premier League wages are an obstacle. The Switzerland international is apparently in Italy for business matters and physio, making a move to Palermo or Roma easier.[LNB]9.31am: So you know: The transfer window window closes at 6pm in England, midnight in Scotland and 11pm across most of Europe.[LNB]9.30am: Beware Liverpool! Rafa Benitez admits he hopes to make signings today after Inter Milan's dire goalless draw against Bologna last night in the Serie A opener. Benitez said: 'I've spoken with the president and although there isn't a lot of time, we hope to do something - otherwise in January we'll bring more balance to the team.' Benitez admires Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt but has also been linked with a sensational move for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Though we shan't be holding out breath on the Fabregas deal. [LNB] Enlarge  Ambitious: Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez has been linked with moves for Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt and Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas[LNB]9.25am: Roma are preparing a last-minute bid for West Ham's Valon Behrami, but it would only be a season-long loan for a fee of less than £500,000. The cash-strapped Italians need to shift players first, though, and they are struggling to find takers for forwards Stefano Okaka and Julio Baptista, as well as goalkeeper Doni.[LNB]9.20am: If you've just joined us, where have you been. You missed, well, nothing so far. But there are plenty of moves int he offing. Notably: Asamoah Gyan to Sunderland and Robinho to AC Milan. Neither completed yet but look likely to be done today.[LNB]9.18am: Roberto Mancini offered Shay Given to Roma in a loan exchange for the Serie A side's Brazilian goalkeeper Doni, claims the Corriere dello Sport newspaper in the Italian capital. However, the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper is not thought to be keen and would prefer a move to Fulham.[LNB]9.15am: Stoke City are going to be very busy today. Already at the club this morning is Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson who is expected top complete a move today. Liam Lawrence and/or Dave Kitson are rumoured to be moving in the other direction as part of the deal. Tony Pulis is also hoping to push through deals foor Monaco's Eidur Gudjohnsen and Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas.  [LNB] Enlarge Enlarge  On the move: Marc Wilson is putting the final touches to hos move to Stoke and Tony Pulis is also rumoured to be moving for Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas[LNB]9.10am: Robinho is prepared to at least halve his £160,000 a week wages to sign for AC Milan, according to reports in Italy. However, there is still no agreement with City. A season-long loan with the right-to-buy is expected, but Milan want it to be just £12.5m, plus another £2.5m in add-ons - a big loss on the man who was a £32.5m British record signing from Real Madrid two years ago. The deal hinges on Marco Borriello leaving the San Siro. Juve have agreed a loan deal for the Italy striker with the option to sign him for £10.7m next summer, but he wants the agreement to include a future four-year deal on significantly more than the £30,000 a week on offer. Roma have also shown interest in Borriello, while there is a chance he could go to City as part of the Robinho deal.[LNB]9.05am: One of the biggest deals of the day looks set to unfold at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is hoping to off load Martyn Waghorn to help fund the £8m transfer Ghana World Cup star Asamoah Gyan. Read more. [LNB]9am: More woe for Premier League clubs chasing new talent on the continent. David Trezeguet - linked to Liverpool and West Ham - has snubbed interest from England and France to sign for La Liga new boys Hercules. The 32-year-old France striker leaves Juventus on a free transfer to move to Alicante, where his lovely wife Beatrice is from. 'I wanted to know the Spanish league,' he said. 'I'm very happy to be in Alicante and I'm going to complete a dream.' [LNB] Top target: Sunderland are on the verge of signing Rennes striker Gyan[LNB]8.55am: The news so far this morning has been about what isn't happening. Boo, etc. Senegal centre half Pape Diakhate - for so long tracked by Arsenal - has left Dynamo Kiev for a season-long loan at Lyon. Liverpool and Tottenham have also been previously linked with the 26-year-old.[LNB]8.52am: The breaking news is that Emmanuel Adebayor and Shay Given will NOT be leaving Manchester City today. That news may have put the kibosh on Marl Schwarzer's move to Arsenal. [LNB]8.50am: Premier League clubs need to announces their 25-man squads for the coming season. Still not sure exactly what that means? Have a look at Sportsmail's guide to transfer deadline. Sources in Russia say the Zenit St Petersburg midfielder - who can play centrally or down the left - is in talks with an unnamed English club about a season-long loan. The 27-year-old has been crowded out at Zenit.[LNB] Enlarge  Going nowhere? Word coming out of Eastlands is that Shay Given and Emmanuel Adebayor will remain at City [LNB]8.45am: It's going to be hard to avoid Manchester City today - whatever happens. They've spent big this summer and it looks as if their business is done but a number of players could be heading for the exit. The names we'll be expecting to hear a lot from today - Shay Given, Roque Santa Cruz and (obviously) Robinho. [LNB]8.40am: Robinho is still a Manchester CIty player. Incredible. [LNB]8.36am: Spartak have been busy, they've also loaned 21-year-old midfielder Yegor Lugachev to Arsenal! Arsenal Kiev, that is.[LNB]8.35am: We're awaiting confirmation from Birmingham, but Spartak Moscow have announced on their website that defender Martin Jiranek, 31, has joined the Blues, as first revealed by Sportsmail. The defender is understood to have moved for a nominal fee as he would be out of contract in December.  The paperwork has also now formally gone through for Tottenham to sign Stipe Pletikosa from Spartak on a season-long loan. Sources in Russia say Spurs have an option to sign the 31-year-old Croatia goalkeeper for just £1.6m.[LNB] Blues-bound: Martin Jiranek (R) is heading for St Andrews[LNB]8.30am: Does anyone believe the Emmanuel Adebayor toTottenham rumour? Me either. [LNB]8.25am: Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has remained relatively subdued in the transfer market, despite the riches he has been offered. Moves for Moussa Dembele and Charles N'Zogbia have been unsuccessful BUT Alexander Hleb and Arsenal's Armand Traore could be on. Read more.[LNB]8.15: The Sky Sports News presenters are in place, primed for action. The news that reaches us overnight is that Harry Redknapp's attempts at bolstering his midfield have failed. [LNB]There's the exit: We expect Robinho to be using it today[LNB]8am: Morning everyone. How are the nerves? [LNB]This is traditionally a day of high drama, yet one which has left us with a sense of emptiness of late. [LNB]As Premier League clubs scale back their spending it has been left to the few to spring surprise transfers on us. [LNB]Will we ever see the drama of Robinho to Manchester City and Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United in the space of an hour again? Maybe not. But there are enough deals in offing to make this an intriguing day all the same.
