Manchester United are rumoured to be considering a January bid for Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone.

According to caughtoffside.com, Huddlestone is highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson and seen as an ideal player to strengthen United's depth in midfield.

A fee of £16 million has been mentioned, though whether Harry Redknapp would be happy to let the 23-year-old go for that amount remains to be seen.

United had expected to welcome back Owen Hargreaves this season, but the England international looks increasingly unlikely to make a telling contribution.

Chris Hughton has ruled out a move to sign Shay Given from Manchester City, but talian giants Roma could be ready to pounce.

According to the Daily Mirror, Given's Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni is encouraging the goalkeeper to move to Serie A - and Roma are rumoured to be keen.

Finally, Arsenal are reportedly planning a January raid on London rivals Fulham for centre-back Brede Hangeland (caughtoffside.com).

The same source also claims the Gunners will be in for Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Skekelenburg - with Arsene Wenger set to receive a cash injection from the club's owners.
