Thierry Henry made me the player I am, says Arsenal youngster Sanchez Watt

Sanchez Watt has thanked Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for helping him burst on to the scene at the Emirates Stadium. Watt scored a debut senior goal in the 2-0 win over West Brom in the Carling Cup and revealed former Gunners skipper Henry gave him valuable advice during his stay in north London. 'There are a lot of players here I watched like Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin,' watt told the Evening Standard. 'I was here when Thierry was here. I didn't get to play with him but I still asked him questions off the pitch when he was free. 'I was about 14 when I spoke to him but it was about my career and not many people get that chance. 'He said: "Be calm in front of goal and when the ball is moving, you don't have to keep making long runs. Make it short and sharp and just take it from there". 'I wasn't nervous because when we were growing up, our manager told us you can ask them questions. If a youngster asks me questions, I see it as a good thing and that I am doing well.' A host of youngsters were given their chance to impress against the Baggies and Watt said: 'The experience was great and the players made me feel like family. We gelled with each other and we showed what we could do. 'My main aim was to work hard on and off the ball and I was keeping their defenders under pressure. I knew they would make mistakes and get tired. 'The manager is always pushing my confidence up and treats everyone the same so it's not like I am a player who is just getting involved. He treats me like I have been here for years in this team. 'We are all pushing each other and everyone is playing for places. It's good because we don't know who is starting. Everyone wants to impress in training to get that starting place. 'There are many strikers here but as long as I show what I can do, there is nothing to worry about.' Watt started out at Senrab, a club famous for producing a wealth of talent including John Terry, Jermain Defoe and Sol Campbell. He added: 'I used to train at Victoria Park in Hackney. I started at Senrab when I was about six and Arsenal came to watch me play. 'Because my dad is a Liverpool supporter, he wasn't too sure about Arsenal but I ended up coming here anyway!'
