The world of football stopped to pay tribute to the great Sir Bobby Robson following his death last month. One of the best bosses to emerge from England, he gained respect from around the globe for his work. Robson started his managerial career at Fulham in 1968, taking control of Ipswich, England, PSV Eindhoven (twice), Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona before finishing at Newcastle, the club he supported all his life. The Geordie legend worked with some of the game's greats along the years and Sportsmail has compiled the top 50 stars to work under him. As always, you can tell us who you think should finish No 1 by leaving your comments. 30 Trevor Whymark Whymark (right) played under Robson at Ipswich for a decade and is one of only six players to score more than 100 goals for the club. He scored all the goals in a 4-0 UEFA Cup victory against Lazio in 1973 but missed out on the famous FA Cup Final victory over Arsenal in 1978 due to injury . 29 Paul Cooper The goalkeeper started his career at Birmingham but went on to make more than 500 appearances for Ipswich, winning the 1978 FA Cup and the UEFA Cup three years later. Renowned penalty saver who stopped eight out of 10 penalties conceded by Town in the 1979-80 season - which remains a record. 28 Chris Waddle Robson was a fan of flair players in his England side and Waddle was certainly that. A crucial penalty miss against West Germany aside, Waddle enjoyed a great run under Sir Bobby, making 62 appearances and scoring six goals. Waddle made just one appearance for England after Robson's departure as manager. 27 George Burley The combative right-back is a hero at Portman Road after spending 12 successful years at the club with over 400 appearances and an FA Cup winner's medal. Burley (right) missed out on the UEFA Cup triumph in in 1981 through injury and had to endure more agony that year after losing out on the First Division title on the last day of season. Like his mentor, Burley went on to manage his country and is trying to steer Scotland to the World Cup finals in South Africa next summer. 26 Malcolm MacDonald Robson, famous for unearthing gems, signed MacDonald (right) for Fulham as a young full back for £1,000 from non-league Tonbridge. Robson turned him into a devastating centre-forward who went on to become 'Supermac,' bagging tons of goals for Newcastle before his move back to London, this time with Arsenal. 25 Luis Enrique Despite Robson's insistence on speaking English to his players at Barcelona (Jose Mourinho won't complain), he made a huge impact on many players in his one season at the Nou Camp. Sir Bobby and Enrique joined the Catalans at the same time and enjoyed three cup successes in one season. 24 Glenn Hoddle Hoddle was known as 'le bon dieu' (God) in France when he played for Monaco but before Robson took charge of England, international managers saw Hoddle as a luxury. However, Robson appreciated Hoddle and the former Spurs and Monaco midfielder played a prominent role in the 1986 World Cup and the shambles that was Euro 88. 23 Pep Guardiola The defensive midfielder spent the majority of his playing career at Barcelona, winning a famous treble during Robson's one season in charge. After Robson's death, Guardiola said: 'It was a privilege to spend a year with him. He was a very experienced coach, with great ideas.' 22 David Johnson Robson traded Ipswich's top goal-scorer Rod Belfitt (and £40,000) for Johnson but the controversial move paid off as he scored 35 goals in four seasons and worked well as a link-up man before leaving for Liverpool. Johnson's defining moment for Town came in the UEFA Cup campaign of 1973 when he scored the goal that clinched a 6-4 aggregate victory over Lazio. 21 John Barnes Barnes was given his England debut by Sir Bobby in May 1983, when he came on as a second-half replacement for Watford team-mate Luther Blissett against Northern Ireland. Barnes scored one of the best individual goals ever seen when he skipped passed several Brazilian defenders before slotting home.
