The Firing Line: Kop out! Pressure piles on Roy Hodgson

11 October 2010 10:39
The dream move to Anfield is starting to become a nightmare for Roy Hodgson as he could only stand and watch in horror as his side were taken apart by Blackpool in the Reds' own backyard.[LNB]The result left Liverpool in the bottom three and ensured their worse start to a season in 57 years. The pressure is on Hodgson and he leads our sack race going in to the international break.[LNB]With most of the sides near the bottom winning, Hodgson's horror show has helped paper over the cracks at Molineux where four straight defeats have seen Wolves slide in to the bottom three.[LNB]But with just four points separating the bottom half of the Premier League, any manager could find a sudden unwanted climb up our table.[LNB] Troubled times: With the club set for takeover, Hodgson is under pressure[LNB]Each week we bring you our latest chart of the managers under pressure, and those on Easy Street. Here's Sportsmail's sack-race rankings - otherwise known as the Firing Line...[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]1Liverpool- Roy Hodgson The despair continues for Hodgson. Reports suggest he has until Christmas once the new owners are in but results will have to improve to last anywhere near until then. UP FOUR[LNB]2West Ham - Avram Grant They may be bottom but Grant is slowly but surely turning it around. Unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions but terrible start means there is still little margin for error. NON-MOVER[LNB] [LNB][LNB]3Wolves- Mick McCarthyAlthough the early red card didn't help, Wolves never looked like beating struggling Wigan. Two points from 18 available make them the most out of form side in the league. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]4Wigan- Roberto Martinez Whatever the circumstances it was a crucial morale boosting victory over 10-man Wolves and Martinez will hope his team can keep hold of their new found confidence in the future. DOWN THREE[LNB]5Blackburn- Sam Allardyce It's been an average start to the season for Rovers. Wins are hard to come by but they seem capable of avoiding a struggle long term. Takeover talks have gone very quiet at Ewood Park. DOWN ONE[LNB][LNB] 6Sunderland- Steve BruceBruce will be fuming he didn't get one over his old boss, with his side creating enough chances to beat Manchester United. Just one win this season but they are hard to beat. NON-MOVER[LNB]7ManCity - Roberto Mancini Looked shaky at times against Newcastle, but Mancini's side are bagging points that they weren't necessarily getting last season. Away form will still hold the key. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]8Everton - David Moyes Finally won their first game of the season and ended Birmingham's year long unbeaten record in the process. In a battle at the bottom but few would back against a climb up the table. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]9Fulham - Mark Hughes Strange start from the Cottagers. Still proudly unbeaten but wins are nearly as rare as defeats. In a close table a couple of bad results could see his side dragged in to a fight at the bottom. UP TWO[LNB][LNB]10Bolton - Owen Coyle Kevin Davies international call-up is a reflection on the work Coyle has done at Bolton. That home win remains elusive but away form is good enough to leave the Trotters fairly comfortable. UP TWO[LNB][LNB]11Newcastle - Chris Hughton An up and down season for the Toon Army but defeat at Man City was very unfortunate, both through the result and the long term injury to Hatem Ben Arfa. Could struggle from now on. UP TWO[LNB][LNB][LNB]12BirminghamCity - Alex McLeish Nothing seems to be going right for McLeish since he signed a new contract. City have not won in their last five and have lost their year long unbeaten record. Testing times lay ahead. UP THREE[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]13Blackpool - Ian Holloway Yet another astonishing win, this time at Anfield, gives the Seasiders the best away record in the Premier League. Just how long can Holloway keep rolling a double six? DOWN FOUR[LNB]14WestBromwich - Roberto Di Matteo The third most in-form team in the league, the Baggies were less convincing than they have been against Bolton but not many teams will fancy a trip to the Hawthorns this season. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]15Stoke City - Tony Pulis Three victories in four have seen the Potters rocket up the table making that bad start seem a long time ago. Pulis' summer signings also look like to be settling very well.  DOWN FIVE[LNB][LNB]16Aston Villa - Gerard Houllier Suffered first defeat at Tottenham, but his side have been playing well enough to suggest he has been fully accepted by the squad. Where he can take them is another question.  NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]17Tottenham- Harry RedknappOne player doesn't make a team but Rafael van der Vaart has sure helped Spurs' and Redknapp's cause over the last few weeks. Good start from Tottenham but nothing more. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB] [LNB]18Chelsea- Carlo AncelottiRode an early storm against Arsenal but again managed to still come away with three points. Normal service resumes at the top for Ancelotti who have daylight over their rivals. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]19Arsenal- Arsene Wenger Hugely frustrated to lose to Chelsea and two straight defeats have dealt an early blow to the Gunner's title ambitions. Early in the season but he can ill afford any more slip-ups. NON-MOVER[LNB]20Man United - Sir Alex FergusonA draw at Sunderland is not an awful result, with many teams set to take a lot less from there this season. But with Chelsea starting to scamper off United have to start winning away. NON-MOVER[LNB] The Firing Line: Roberto returns! Wigan boss goes back to the top The Firing Line: Third time unlucky!
