Arsenal striker Theo Walcott impressed on his debut for England's Under-21 side, despite them being held to a 2-2 draw by Moldova.

Walcott, part of the senior squad at this summer's World Cup finals, headed the opening goal of the game after just three minutes and went on to show up well, before being replaced just past the hour mark.

Manager Peter Taylor said after the game: "I'm sure he enjoyed himself, to score very early is a bonus.

"He's played no matches, so the way he played for an hour is tremendous.

"I spoke to Arsene Wenger and I always knew an hour would be enough for him, as it is his first game.

"I thought if we played better as a team he would have looked better, we would have kept possession and got him into better areas.

"Unfortunately we kept giving the ball away and didn't set up enough attacks."
