Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been left out of the squad that travelled to Montpellier for Tuesday's Champions League opener after picking up an ankle injury.

The Poland international had played in Saturday's 6-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League but let in a sloppy goal shortly before half-time.

Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone is expected to deputise, having already kept goal in the 0-0 draw with Stoke City and the 2-0 win at Liverpool.

French midfielder Abou Diaby was named in Arsene Wenger's 18-man squad after overcoming a hip problem, but there was no place for Andrey Arshavin, who spent the second part of last season on loan at Zenit Saint Petersburg.
