    Stupid Blues fans upset Wenger

    19 Oct 2009 - 08:15:18

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has branded Birmingham City fans "atrocious" and "stupid" following their reaction to the tackle which left Theo Walcott nursing a knee injury.

The Gunners won 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday but Wenger was upset by some sections of the travelling support.

The full extent of Walcott's injury following Liam Ridgewell's strong tackle is not yet known, but Wenger has slammed the Blues fans who chanted Martin Taylor's name immediately after the incident.

Taylor was the Birmingham player involved in the incident which left Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva fighting for his career with a broken leg and dislocated ankle 18 months ago.

Immediately after the Croatia international's horrific injury at St Andrew's in February 2008, Wenger had called for Taylor to be banned for life.

"Frankly that is atrocious," said Wenger about the conduct of some Birmingham fans towards Walcott.

"They will not be remembered for the quality of their taste with that kind of remark.

"I just thought 'That is low' and put it in the ranks of stupidity.

"One starts to say something stupid, everybody follows, even intelligent people.

"People lose their identity together and their sense of responsibility."
