Spurs gunning for Gallas - Redknapp

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in signing former Arsenal defender William Gallas on a free transfer.[LNB] The France centre-back has yet to find a new club since leaving Arsenal over the summer and has been linked with the likes of Juventus and Panathinaikos.[LNB]However, he could now make the short move across north London to join the Gunners' arch-rivals after Redknapp revealed he has discussed a possible deal.[LNB]Redknapp believes Gallas, who turns 33 next week, would be an ideal acquisition and is waiting to see if a deal can be agreed for him to link up with Spurs. [LNB]"I like Gallas," said Redknapp. "I think he's a great free transfer. [LNB]"It's a possibility. He hasn't been greedy at all. His people have rung up and we spoke about it.[LNB]"I thought at the start of the year there were three fantastic free transfers available - David James, the England goalkeeper, Joe Cole and William Gallas.[LNB]"He's a player I think would be a good player, he's an experienced player. He's played at the top level, he won championships with Chelsea."[LNB]Redknapp dismissed his Arsenal connections as a problem and added: "You can go on for ever about that. He played for Chelsea as well. We put too much importance on that all the time.[LNB]"If he comes in and plays rubbish, then the crowd will slaughter him. If he comes in and plays great, they will love him. That's football."[LNB]Redknapp is also optimistic that Spurs can push Arsenal all the way this season and potentially finish above their staunch rivals in the Premier League.[LNB]He said: "We were behind Arsenal by miles for years and years and years, but now we've got a chance to really push them and get above them. That would be great for Tottenham fans and it's possible.[LNB]"If Arsenal had lost their last game of last season, we would have finished above them last year. We finished fourth, our best-ever finish (in the Premier League) and we have to build on that now.[LNB]"It's about time somebody else won the championship. It's not impossible. The sky's the limit and we've got to go for it.[LNB]"Tottenham will never get a better chance. We just need to improve that little bit. I still feel we need one or two top quality players to tip the balance for us."
