Spanish basement boys Xerez line up shock bid for Arsenal star Carlos Vela

Spanish strugglers Xerez will try to tempt Carlos Vela away from Arsenal when the transfer window opens in January. The Mexico striker has failed to nail down a regular place with the Gunners since his arrival in north London in 2005 and is eager for first-team football with the World Cup in South Africa on the horizon. An ankle injury hampered Vela's progress earlier in the season and since returning to fitness he has made just one appearance - when he scored after coming off the bench in the 2-0 Carling Cup win over West Brom. Vela has already had loan spells in Spain, with Salamanca and Osasuna, and Xerez are in need of a striker to help lift them off the foot of the table. A sokesperson for Xerez said: 'We are looking to bring in a forward who can stop the lack of goals in the team. 'We are looking at a number of options in the European and Spanish markets and it is possible that Carlos will arrive in the winter market.'
