Song: Gunners have fighting spirit

Arsenal midfielder Alex Song believes the Gunners have developed a fighting instinct which has been lacking in previous years.[LNB] The versatile midfielder scored the Gunners' third goal in a 4-1 victory over Owen Coyle's Bolton at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.[LNB]Arsenal's victory was helped by error-prone referee Stuart Attwell's controversial decision to send off Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill when the score was still only 2-1.[LNB]But Song still thinks that, having won at Blackburn prior to the international break, he and his team-mates have learnt to deal with teams who have a reputation for favouring a direct approach that has caused problems in the past. [LNB]"At Blackburn away, we know what happened there last season," the Cameroon international told Arsenal's official website with reference to a 2-1 defeat at Ewood Park in 2009/10.[LNB]"When we go to places like that we know how tough it will be, we know we have to fight and we showed good character."[LNB]Arsene Wenger has been known to criticise some teams for applying an overly-physical style which was in direct contrast to the characteristic aesthetics of his side.[LNB]But Song thinks Arsenal are making strides which could help to secure a first trophy since the 2005 FA Cup. [LNB]"We know that Bolton have the same style as Blackburn," he said. "At home, we know we have to play to our strengths, move the ball, pass it and then no-one can do anything about it when we play at our best. That's why everyone was happy.[LNB]"When you play at home, it's not as hard as it is away from home at times because we have more space and when we play away the team wants to keep the ball, and to fight. [LNB]"I think we did very well at Blackburn two weeks ago and we did very, very well against Bolton and now we have to learn from this game for the future.[LNB]"For Arsenal, with the style we have to keep the ball and play. Now we know that we can also go away from home and be ready for every team and be ready for the fight.[LNB]"We can fight when we need to fight and we can play good football when we get the chance to play good football."
