Sol destroying! FIFA ban may force Campbell to hang up his boots for good

Sol Campbell's glittering playing career appears to be over after he quit Notts County. The former England defender will have to wait until January to play again after it was confirmed that he will be unable to transfer his registration. FIFA have introduced a rule to stop players walking out on contracts for another deal. That will scupper his chances of an early switch to Newcastle as his former England team-mate Alan Shearer gets ready to return. Campbell, 35, had agreed a five-year deal worth an estimated £10million to play for County, but it seems his hunger is now in question after he walked out and returned to London following Sportsmail's exclusive yesterday. Campbell was unhappy with the training pitches and conditions at the League Two club, who say he didn't want to 'adjust to the longterm project'. A source said: 'I think he just thought enough was enough after Saturday's defeat at Morecambe. It was an eye-opener.'
