Simpson pens Gunners deal

Arsenal have handed promising striker Jay Simpson a new long-term contract.

The 20-year-old graduate of the youth system at the Emirates Stadium is poised to join Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion on loan when the transfer window reopens.

But the youngster appears to have a bright future ahead of him at the north London club after impressing manager Arsene Wenger enough to earn a new lengthy deal.

Simpson was loaned out to League One side Millwall last season where he made 46 appearances.

This year he has returned to the Gunners and made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup.

He scored twice in the fourth round 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in November and also featured against Sheffield United and Burnley.
