Arsenal centre-back Philippe Senderos hopes to return to training next week after making good progress in his recovery from a shoulder injury.
Senderos has not played since dislocating his shoulder during Switzerland's 2-0 win against South Korea at the World Cup finals, but believes he is almost ready to challenge Kolo Toure, William Gallas and Johan Djourou for a place at the heart of the Gunners' defence.
The 21-year-old told the Daily Express: "My shoulder feels better and I'm seeing the specialist this week.
"I expect to get the green light to resume training next week. It has been a test of my mental strength but I will come back stronger than ever.
"Now it's down to me to win my place back in the Arsenal defence."
