Second chance for Senderos
22 Sep 2009 - 13:43:41
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has handed Switzerland international Philippe Senderos the chance to resurrect his career at the Emirates Stadium.
The 24-year-old spent last season on loan with AC Milan and, on his return to Arsenal, was linked with a summer transfer to Everton.
However, since Johan Djourou picked up a serious knee injury, Senderos has been welcomed back to the first-team fold by Wenger who looks set to name him in his the starting line-up for the Carling Cup third-round clash with West Brom.
Wenger said: "The position at the moment is that we have four centre-backs and he is one of the four because Djourou is out for nearly the whole season.
"In this job you always have to be ready and when you get the chance you can do well.
"If you are not ready, everybody will say he is not good enough to play for Arsenal. Now he is back with us so we will just give him a chance.
"I don't believe he is starting his career again because we know how good he is, but it is a new start, let's say, because we have already seen his quality."
