Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes his former club need only minor changes in the summer to re-establish themselves as Barclays Premier League contenders.
Top priority is holding on to midfielder Cesc Fabregas but Seaman also believes high on the list is recruiting a new centre-back. Fabregas has again been linked with a return to Barcelona but his departure would be a huge blow to the club, said the former England international.
"Only he knows where his future is," said Seaman. "He has to stay because he is a fantastic player and it would be a massive loss if Arsenal let him go."
He added: "But it is going to be down to what the player wants."
As regards incoming transfers, Seaman said it was obvious where manager Arsene Wenger needed to strengthen.
"He has got to sign a central defender - and someone who is the finished article, an established centre-half, rather than a developing player," he added. "Arsenal need a younger Tony Adams or Sol Campbell. There is not much else which needs changing, possibly a midfielder.
"This season they've had a number of injuries to key players (including Fabregas and Robin van Persie) and that cost them.
"Even then, they still had chance to win the league with three games to go and that was more than was expected of them at the start of the season."
Seaman also backed Wenger's judgement over his goalkeepers despite Manuel Almunia and Lucasz Fabianski both putting in some poor performances.
"He has got it right. Manuel Almunia is the perfect age now and he has the experience to push his game on," said Seaman, promoting Yahoo! Eurosport's World Cup coverage and also Yahoo! UK securing exclusive online rights to Premier League highlights. "Fabianski did not have the best end to the season but it all comes with playing regularly and he is not getting enough games."
