Schneiderlin edges closer to Arsenal move

The transfer saga surrounding Morgan Schneiderlin appears to be set to be conclude in the summer with the midfielder looking set to join the Gunners.

Arsenal are said to be moving closer to completing the signing of the Southampton player who was persuaded to stay on with the Saints after something of an exodus of several of last seasons players. The Saints surprised many though with their form and still occupy in a creditable position in the Premier League table but were for a while in the mix for a Champions League berth.

Wenger has been keen on signing the player for some time and feels the player is an ideal fit to fill an area of weakness as a deep lying midfielder who would be able to support a defence which has at times this term been exposed.

The 25-year-old France international is thought to be interested in a move to the Emirates and will be expected to cost Arsenal in the region of £25million to make the move a reality.

ESPN have been told that Southampton have reassured the player he can leave if the price is right in the summer. Arsenal could face competition from Spurs although the player has expressed his desire to play in the Champions League.
