Ryan Shawcross: I won't change my style despite Aaron Ramsey's injury

Shawcross inflicted the broken leg on Ramsey at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday and admits his first call-up to the England squad, for the friendly victory against Egypt on Wednesday, has helped keep his mind off the matter. But the 22-year-old said: "What happened in the Arsenal game will not be factor when I next play again for Stoke. Whenever I pull on the Stoke shirt I have got to be 100 per cent committed and I have got to be the same as ever. Hopefully, when I am back from the suspension I can do well again." Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is among those who have acknowledged Shawcross did not try to deliberately hurt 19-year-old Ramsey. "He's sent a few text messages to Aaron. I'll let them get on with it," Walcott said. "He spoke to me, he's a very humble lad. Obviously he knows what's happened and feels very bad. He's apologised. He's not a player to do those sort of tackles. He'll put his head down and work very hard for club and country." Shawcross, an unused substitute against Egypt, revealed the support he received from his England team-mates. "All the England players have been fantastic about what happened with Aaron Ramsey," he said. "They've got my mind on football really, nothing else. I've enjoyed their company and it's been a good experience. "It's been a tough week, everyone knows about that but being in the England squad has been fantastic and all I can do now is look forward and try to keep my place. "Being called up to England has definitely helped me put what happened against Arsenal behind me, it's been a great experience. "The Stoke fans and a lot of people me have been fantastic. It's been a tough week, but I've enjoyed myself." Shawcross is hoping to play his way into contention for a place at the World Cup when he returns to action. He added: "You never know whether I can still make the World Cup. There are a lot of good players, but hopefully I can do well in the next couple of weeks and months. Fabio has just told me I need to keep on improving."
