Rosicky sets record straight
19 Aug 2008 - 14:27:06
Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has attempted to nip a potential dispute with team-mates in the bud by clarifying comments he made to the media in his native Czech Republic.
Rosicky, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, was quoted as suggesting that team-mates Gael Clichy and William Gallas were to blame for the Gunners' trophyless season last year.
The Czech midfielder was critical of the pair's actions in last season's 2-2 draw with Birmingham City where the Gunners lost Eduardo da Silva to a broken leg, Clichy conceded a late penalty and captain Gallas was accused of petulance.
However, Rosicky insists the comments were not made in a critical light and insists the Gunners are united by the goal of winning silverware this season.
"I would never blame individuals for the team not lifting a trophy," he said in a statement.
"We are in it together. We win as a team and we lose as a team.
"As individuals, we all make mistakes and the message I was relaying to a Czech newspaper was that we are more experienced now and have learnt from last season.
"We came so close last year to winning something and we will be giving it our all to win a trophy this year."
