Robin van Persie could have been a match for Lionel Messi, says Arsenal boss Wenger

Robin van Persie returns on Wednesday night after five months out, with Arsene Wenger claiming the Holland striker would have been in an elite bracket with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney if his season had not been wrecked by injury.[LNB]Van Persie opened the campaign with seven goals in 11 Barclays Premier League games but damaged ankle ligaments playing for Holland in November and has not featured since.[LNB] Gunning for glory: Arsenal's Robin van Persie is set to return to action after five months out[LNB]Wenger said: 'The biggest frustration was because he had started to compete as one of the best players in the world and suddenly he was out.
