Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood's insistence that Barcelona have assuredhim they will not bid for Cesc Fabregas this summer may not be worth much.

Barca president Joan Laporta steps down in the summer and it looks as though hisbitter rival Sandro Rosell will win the election, which will mean a clear-out of thecurrent board.

Empty promise: Barca's pledge to not pursue a bid for Fabregas is worthless

Laporta is facing legal action from Rosell and Chelsea after claiming in a book that Rosell offered to share a £7million sweetener with him for selling Ronaldinho to theLondoners in 2004.

Chelsea will seek a retraction, claiming at no stage did they make an offer for Ronaldinho.
