Reports: Gunners set to complete move for PSG superstar

Arsenal are now close to welcoming Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani to London according to reports from various news outlets this morning.

The 27-year-old has been linked with various Premier League clubs since the autumn but the cost and availability of the striker has been a sticking point. The rumours have also generally been inconsistent with the player publicly stating he was happy and settled in Paris before rumours that he wanted out.

Arsene Wenger has responded to the rumours before as if to rule the club out of any massively inflated valuation of a player that should realistically cost £30-35million:

“I don’t give any importance to rumours. There was a rumour two days ago in France that I offered £62 million for Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain. Everyday there is a different rumour so I don’t give importance to that.”

That said it seems that Cavani has been omitted from warm-weather training with the Ligue 1 Club spawning this latest round of speculation regarding his future. With Podolski being linked with a move away from the Emirates it may well be that Wenger might prefer to have move options upfront after bringing in Welbeck but you would think that Arsenal would need to sell to raise the funds for a marquee player like Cavani. You then have the additional complication of the player being in the PSG squad for the Champions League.
