Real Madrid give up on trying to tempt Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to the Bernabeu

Holding firm: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger Real Madrid have conceded defeat in their plans to make Arsene Wenger their next manager as they seek a summer replacement for Manuel Pellegrini. The Spanish giants tried to lure Wenger from Arsenal before turning to Pellegrini last summer but appear to have conceded that the Frenchman's loyalty to the Gunners is unbreakable. There are also key figures at Juventus who would like to see the 60-year-old coach in Turin, but his admirers look set to be disappointed. Spanish newspaper Marca, who have close links to Real Madrid, say there are five names on the short list to replace Pellegrini, including Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, Chelsea's Carlo Ancelotti and England manager Fabio Capello. Inter Milan's Jose Mourinho appears to be the favourite, while the latest name linked with the Bernabeu hot seat is former Brazil chief Luiz Felipe Scolari, who is on a bumper contract at Uzbek side Bunyodkor. Juve are also keen on Benitez and Capello and had hoped to reach an agreement with one of them this week. Capello has voiced his commitment to England both publicly and privately and has a contract through to Euro 2012, though Benitez's future at Anfield is less certain after a disappointing season and frustration at a lack of transfer funds.
