Diego Costa

The Chelsea striker’s first season in English football has been very successful, and he was crowned the PFA Fan’s Player of the month in September after scoring eight goals in his opening six games for the club. Costa scored a hat-trick as Chelsea beat Swansea City 4-2 at Stamford Bridge and then followed that up with another impressive performance as Chelsea came away from Manchester City with a point. Costa was on the score sheet again in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa. To date Costa has scored 19 goals in his debut season in the Premier League helping Chelsea secure the Premier League title with three games remaining. But for injuries in the second half of the season Costa would almost certainly have scored more goals, but nevertheless a blistering start to life at Stamford Bridge makes him a worthy inclusion in the Fan Player of the Season shortlist. Diego Costa’s fine season also saw him included in the official PFA Premier League team of the year.

Alexis Sanchez

Another player who has impressed in his debut season in English football is Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal are on course for their best Premier League finish for a decade and part of the reason for that is Sanchez’s form in front of goal. The Chilean attacking midfielder was named PFA Fan’s Player of the month in October in which he scored three goals and racked up one assist. Sanchez scored in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Hull at the start of the month, and provided the assist for Danny Welbeck’s stoppage time equalising goal. Sanchez followed this up with both goals the following week as Arsenal beat Sunderland 2-0. Sanchez has continued to score consistently throughout the season and he has scored 16 goals so far as well as providing eight assists for his teammates. Sanchez scored twice in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Reading, and the north London club will meet Aston Villa at Wembley at the end of this month for a chance of silverware. Sanchez’s fine form for Arsenal also saw him included in the Premier League team of the year.

David De Gea

The Manchester United goalkeeper has been in great form this season for Louis Van Gaal’s team and he was awarded the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award in December following a string of impressive performances as he kept two clean sheets. The first came as Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Old Trafford and then De Gea put in a man of the match performance to help the Red Devils overcome Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, making a string of fine saves to keep Arsenal at bay. The Spain and Arsenal midfielder was awarded the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award in two consecutive months in December and January in recognition of his fine performances. In December he scored four goals and one assist to help Arsenal to wins over Newcastle and West Ham over the festive period. Cazorla followed this up with another goal and an assist during January to help Arsenal to wins over Manchester City and Aston Villa. Carzola was instrumental in the aforementioned victory over Manchester City and since then Arsenal’s form has been unrivalled. In total, Cazorla has scored seven goals this season in the Premier League and set up nine goals for his teammates.

Philippe Coutinho

The Liverpool midfielder has been in great form again this season scoring a number of important goals for Liverpool. The Brazilian midfielder was voted the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month in February. Coutinho was part of the Liverpool team that drew at Merseyside neighbours Everton at the start of the month and then he helped Liverpool to a 3-2 victory against Tottenham. Coutinho also helped Liverpool overcome Crystal Palace in the FA Cup 5th round to set up a tie against Blackburn Rovers. Coutinho followed this up with a man of the match performance against high flying Southampton, scoring the opening goal in a 2-0 victory at St Mary’s. He then scored the winning goal as Liverpool beat champions Manchester City 2-1 at Anfield. In total the midfielder has scored five goals and provided five assists this season. Coutinho’s impressive season for Liverpool also saw him included in the Premier League team of the year.

Harry Kane

At the start of the season Harry Kane was a relatively unknown name but by the time the season finishes the young Tottenham and England international striker could end up with the Premier League golden boot on his CV. The Tottenham striker was named PFA Fans’ Player of the Month in March in recognition for his performances. Tottenham recorded three wins out of a possible four in March and Kane began the month by helping Tottenham to a 3-2 victory over Swansea at White Hart Lane. Kane then followed this up with both goals in the 2-1 victory over London neighbours QPR. The Englishman put in a man of the match performance scoring a hat trick to help Tottenham beat Leicester 4-3 last weekend. Kane’s excellent form throughout March saw him win his first international caps, scoring less than three minutes into his debut against Lithuania. He then made his first international start playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Italy. Kane was recently named the PFA Young Player of the Year. In total Kane has scored 20 goals in the Premier League this season, and has scored over 30 in total.. Kane was also included in the PFA Premier League team of the year.

Mesut Ozil

The Arsenal and Germany midfielder was rewarded for his fine performances by being named the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month in April. Ozil played an integral role in helping Arsenal record two wins out of a possible three in April extending their unbeaten run to nine games in the league. Ozil was instrumental in the 4-1 victory over Liverpool at the start of the month and scored the second goal in a 4-1 victory as well as providing one assist for his teammates. The German followed this up with another impressive performance in the 1-0 victory over relegation threatened Burnley at Turf Moor. Ozil then played the full 90 minutes as Arsenal drew 0-0 with Chelsea. Ozil has enjoyed a good second half of the season and his performances have played a key role in Arsenal’s turnaround after a slow start to the season. In total Ozil has scored four goals and provided five assists for his teammates this season. Ozil played a key role in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Reading setting up both goals for Alexis Sanchez.

Eden Hazard

The Chelsea and Belgium international midfielder has been a standout performer for Chelsea this season. Under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, Hazard has enjoyed his best season in a Chelsea shirt since moving to the club and has scored 14 premier league goals, providing his teammates with eight assists. Chelsea have led from the opening weekend and Hazard has scored a number of important goals along the way as Chelsea secured their first Premier League title since 2010. The Chelsea midfielder was recently crowned PFA player of the season in recognition of a series of outstanding performances and he was also included in the PFA Premier League team of the year for the second consecutive season.

Sergio Aguero

The influential Manchester City striker has been in great goal scoring form again this season and is in pole position to win the golden boot. In what’s been a largely disappointing season for last season’s champions, Aguero’s goal scoring form has remained constant throughout. In total Aguero has scored 25 goals laying on seven assists for his teammates. Whenever Aguero has played he has looked a threat and had he not missed a month of the season through injury, then Manchester City may have posed a bigger threat to Chelsea during the second half of the season. Aguero is a natural finisher and his goals alone make him a worthy candidate for the fans player of the season award, especially if he goes on to win the golden boot again this season.

John Terry

The Chelsea captain has played every minute of every game so far in the Premier League this season and his experience has no doubt played a part in helping Chelsea win the league this season for the first time in five years. His tactical awareness on the pitch, his organisational skills and his leadership are all qualities that Chelsea have been able to call upon during the run in the last few weeks where they have had to grind out results and Terry has perhaps enjoyed his most consistent season in a Chelsea shirt to date. Terry is the only defender on the shortlist for the end of season fan player of the year award. Terry’s fine saw season for Chelsea also saw him included in the PFA Premier League team of the year.
