Ox in the box should go to Euros - Shearer

Former England captain Alan Shearer believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be called up for the European Championships following his starring role in Arsenal's Champions League win over AC Milan.

The Arsenal teenager produced another promising display in Tuesday's 3-0 victory at the Emirates, winning a penalty as the Gunners just failed to overturn a 4-0 first leg deficit.

Shearer said the 18-year-old winger's performance showed he was ready to be included in England's squad for this summer's finals in Poland and Ukraine.

"I was really, really impressed with him last night, and have been whenever he's put an Arsenal shirt on - I have to say that," Shearer said in London.

"Let's face it, he was playing an experienced AC Milan side last night and was probably one of the best players on the pitch, which bodes well for England.

"It's a similar situation to Theo Walcott but I'd say he probably looks more comfortable than Theo did when he was at that age.

"If he keep on improving then why not take him?"

Walcott was famously selected for England's 2006 World Cup squad but did not kick a ball throughout the tournament.
