    No Gunners exit for Senderos

    04 Aug 2008 - 08:30:22

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed rumours linking Switzerland international Philippe Senderos with a move to Newcastle United.

It had been suggested at the weekend that the 23-year-old defender would be heading to Tyneside as part of a deal that would see Magpies goalkeeper Shay Given move in the opposite direction.

However, Wenger told Sky Sports News about the speculation: "Nothing, no. I will not react because we want to keep our best players.

"We are going in to a season now and we have to have everybody focused on our targets.

"If we can bring in one more player we will do it, if not we will go with the squad we have, I am happy with that.

"We have to now continue to be focused on our targets."

On the boos Emmanuel Adebayor received from a section of Arsenal fans over the weekend, Wenger added: "I feel Adebayor felt people questioned his commitment a little bit and the best answer always is to give on the pitch.

"You play well and show you are ready to fight for your shirt and your team. He does that. He is a man with character.

"You know how it is. If you score goals people forget quickly their frustration. You have to show it with performances in this job."
